Employability for Resilience
Building sustainable livelihoods and economic resilience through skills development and enterprise growth
UNU-Trust implements its activities among Arid and Semi-Arid counties of Kenya that are affected by the climate crisis, food insecurity and malnutrition, instability, mass displacement, youth unemployment and gender inequality.
We work across Isiolo, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, Samburu, Turkana and West Pokot counties in northern Kenya.
We partner with government ministries, development partners, and local community leaders to drive sustainable change.
Promoting employability, enhancing innovation, and bridging exclusion gaps in equality, digital space, and rights accessibility.
Our model is designed with Employability for Resilience and Digital Innovation & Inclusion as the main pillars, supported by cross-cutting themes of gender equality, climate action, and policy governance.
Core foundations of our intervention model
Building sustainable livelihoods and economic resilience through skills development and enterprise growth
Bridging the digital divide and leveraging technology for socio-economic empowerment
Integral components across all our initiatives

Building climate-resilient communities and sustainable environmental practices
Advocating for inclusive policies and strengthening community governance structures
Our comprehensive strategy addresses the interconnected challenges of extreme poverty, patriarchy, and climate change through targeted interventions at individual, household, community, and systemic levels.
In Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands, extreme poverty persists due to climate change, economic inequality, mass displacement, and gender inequality, with women and excluded groups being disproportionately affected.
